The Lisbon Sports Club was in 1880 located in Lisbon on the grounds of today's Campo Pequeno bullring. The Club first played golf on a six-hole course in Algês, later a nine-hole course in Belas, and later expanding this to eighteen-holes. It is known as a "tricky course" to play. A small river by the name of Jamor runs through the course presenting some challenges that defy even good players. As a final reward the par-4 eighteenth hole of 442 metres sets out to press the patience of any player. The Rio Jamor threatens to catch your ball some six times before you land on a narrow green surrounded by cypress trees.

It is a tendency for Portuguese par-3 holes to often be the best holes on the course. The "Quinta da Marinha Course" is no exception. The fifth hole is an example with several bunkers surrounding the elevated green. The fourteenth is played over a steep bank that becomes an interesting challenge. The small tight greens asks the player to take caution in their approach shots.

This is considered within Portugal as being an up-market course. Located within easy driving distance of Lisbon the course is settled amongst pine trees. Two holes worth a special mention is the eleventh and the fourteenth. The first is a par-4 that demands a very accurate second shot as water waits to the left and a large bunker to the right. This course is a favorite location for tournaments and has been chosen for the Portuguese Open.

The Estoril Golf Club has suffered several course changes during its history. It started as nine holes and was enlarged to eighteen holes in 1945. In the 90´s it suffered a further change due to the construction of a highway road. The sixteenth hole, one of those that have been subject to redesign, is a par-3 of 184 metres and considered by many players as one of the most outstanding holes in Portugal. Lying within the main course there is a further nine-holes designed for mainly beginners at the game.

A course within comfortable distance of Lisbon. Located amongst vineyards the course is laid out on slightly undulating terrain. Wide fairways beckon the player to many elevated greens. Once again another par-3 hole on the eighth claims an interesting challenge.

This setting and course can be considered the luxury of Portuguese golf. Located in the parklands of what was once a 14th Century Convent that has been extended through the ages and recently carefully restored. No expense appears to have been saved in creating this course and a Luxury Hotel and development support it. The topographical layout is gently hilly which adds to the overall beauty and effect. The course offers water hazards, elevated greens and the challenge of the wind. The course has to be played for the quality of thought of its creator to be truly appreciated. There is a separate nine-hole course named "Mosteiro".

This flat course is located between Cascais and Sintra mountain and thus enjoying the nice views. Carefully consideration has been given to creating a pleasurable game and the eighteenth par-4 hole of 384 metres is designed as a final beautiful finish to a round. The green remains hidden behind the largest of the many lakes and beckons your final shot.
